Lighting when photographing horses

If you're shooting on the street - take the weather allies. Do not be lazy to get up at dawn to shoot , shoot at dusk, in the rain, in bad weather, you should not only take pictures in bright light at noon - remember, the non-standard light, more interesting photos. When still have to shoot in bright sunlight, try to get out of the camera so that the sun was behind your back.

Do not take photos in the shade of the horse if her brightly lit background, but do not neglect completely backlit. You can get a great shot, for example, if you remove the bathing in the water of a horse or a horse that wash out of the hose: you can capture water droplets and silhouette - the water in the sun, wet side of the horse can be very revitalize photo main difficulty here is shooting against the sun, the lens can get glare.

The flash when shooting horses to use does not work. First, it is harmful to the eyes of horses and horse's health for us - the main thing, and secondly, it is technically very difficult to do well, as the horse is on the constantly changing distance. If the light is not enough, the flash can be directed straight up at the ceiling of the arena, but it is an extreme measure. Here it should be noted that the flash aimed at the ceiling will give effect only if the ceiling is not too high and has a light coating that will reflect light. In case of high dark ceiling this technique is doomed to failure - a dark coating absorbs light from the flash.
Better not to rely on flash and use other sources of illumination .

Recently I came across a great photo on the composition of the horse. And everything would be okay, but the background brighter than the red horse "burned" fluorescent reflective strips on someone's snowy boots. Of course, the author, is passionate about the process, just did not notice such details of the landscape...
Always remember: in this case, the main thing - it is the subject , "wealth" backgrounds inappropriate here. Background should be restrained and work on model. It shall not contain any of the small details, for which clings to the eye. Any "interesting" and brightest objects in the background, no buckets, manure tanks, wheelbarrows and vehicles (unless, of course, there is no special task show stables life or reveal other "background" theme). Generally, the smaller the foreign object in the frame, the better. In fact, one of the best backdrops for a horse - is darkness. However, if the background is inevitable or should carry a meaning, it would have to choose, prepare and study.
If we can not be without them, try to minimize them (again, if the image, for example, is not in the hands of the idea of the photographer). Ask those who can get into the scene properly dressed.
In most cases, depicting horse should not "stick" to the background. Its closeness justified if the background has a meaning ......

Photographers know: "The photo should speak for itself." The viewer should not read her name, to understand exactly what the author wanted to show the more should not listen to explanations about the meaning of the picture.
The viewer at first sight must understand and see what moment captured in this photo, and in this life! After Photography - the art of saying the truth without words. It is an art and we must learn for the sake of the horse, if we take up a camera.

In other blogs we will talk about women and horses.
